More 4th of July!

Been in a very Patriotic mood lately.  Even got flags painted on my fingernails today! :)
Today I have pics for you of a couple more goodies I made for the 4th of July and a little bit of decorating in my house.

Here is another twist on the stand up box.  I like the crispness of this one! 
For a stand up box you only need a paper cutter, a scoring tool and adhesive!
Used the Stampin' Up Perfect Pennants Bigz die for white scallop, the 1 3/4" scallop circle punch, 3/4" circle punch and a star punch purchased at Joannes I finished the box off.

Used the Petite Pocket Bigz die for the white envelope, stamped it with Cherry Cobbler and Night of Navy stars, then textured the stamped section with the Square lattice folder.  Wrapped Cherry Cobbler bakers twine around the pocket a few times, and added a tag and shimmer star, filled with Twizzlers and some star wire purchased from the Dollar Tree.  Simple, cute and sweet! 

 Here is our mantle, nothing fancy.  Just a banner I made last year, some wooden stars decoupaged with patriotic napkins, an empty Ghirardelli tin and a couple of framed flags I found at a garage sale or thrift store. (I must be getting old because I can't remember exactly where I found them!)

 Lastly in a cabinet in the kitchen we have an apothecary jar filled with stars and striped wrapped taffy and Tootsie rolls. Add an oak frame that I painted white and put a cute cupcake print in and added a little star pennant.

I hope I have inspired you to if nothing else, get a fingernail or toenail painted with a flag for the 4th of July! :)

A little candle re-do

Hi there! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Was almost like summer Saturday, not so much today, and it looks like rain may be headed our way again. So, I hope like me, you took advantage of the nice weather yesterday and got outdoors!
As the weekend is winding to an end and John and I were sitting on the couch after dinner, I took a look at my mantle and thought it needed a little something. ???? I remembered I had some really nice vintage looking scrapbook paper that Julia had given me. So I took these plain looking faux candles (purchased the set of 5 at Costco a couple of years ago for $35 or $36) And I transformed them into this:

I cut 2 pieces of 3" X 12" pieces of paper, with 2 - 1" X 12"pieces of contrasting paper to center on the 3" paper for the small candles on the end. For the 2 candles surrounding the middle, I cut 4" X 12" and 1 1/2" X 12"contrasting pieces. For the large candle I used a 5" X 12" piece of paper and a 1 1/2" strip for the center. I used fine twine to tie them around the candles. They can easily be removed when I get tired of them.
I am already thinking of what cool 4th of July paper I can use for these candles.

Here is a closeup so you can better see the paper. Nice vintage paisley print with stripes. John suggested the stripes. Good call!
A quick and easy change to the mantle!!!

Easter Decorations---Finally!

Easter is only a week away and I finally got the decorations out. Pretty minimal but at least it looks like spring around the house. The items on the mantle are my favorite from my little collection, especially that sweet bunny! Not much on this table and Holly decided to get in the pic. See the tole painted bunny basket on your right? Well I made that over 25 years ago! I didn't take to tole painting so well, but the bunny was worth keeping. This bunny table runner and glass bowl were both great garage sale finds and the speckled eggs I have used in my jars and in the bowl were purchased at Joannes last year.
I think I found this little bunny at the $ store and the little hanger on the door knob is from Avon.I replaced the candle on this candleholder with a plastic easter egg. Just a few items on my vintage record cabinet.

Fall/Halloween YEA!!!!!!!!

My son came in last night and told me that the neighborhood kids were laughing because I already had the house decorated for Halloween. I told him I didn't care. I LOVE HALLOWEEN, deal with it. And it's September for goodness sakes, I didn't decorate for Halloween in July. Geez!I made this sweet little BOO banner with paper from Stampin' Up. I used tissue paper behind the letter and circle. Added a little rickrack for a "pop". I don't think this picture did it justice. Really like this banner, going to tweak it a bit and make some more!

Made this banner with Stampin' Up paper also. This is two sided paper, you can see the other side on the mirror. Just added buttons and little orange sparklies to finish this one off. I am loving these banners!

Put your pumpkins on a pedestal. It just makes them look so elegant!

It is fall in my house! This little mantle setup will stay up until after Thanksgiving. Then.... time for Christmas decorations!!!!!

Decorating on a Nickel :)

I almost titled this "I dub myself the Queen of Decorating on a Dime", but decided I am too humble for that and I am sure that there are far more crafty out there than I. As my daughter is moving to Monterey in two weeks to go to college I have become a junkin' junkie!! However, my junkin' finds don't stop with my daughter I have some re-makes of my own going on. Oops a little out of order again, but here we go. These lovely black and gold curtains were found a couple of months ago at a church rummage sale and cost next to nothing. I wasn't sure where they were going to go, but I figured that out today. As you will see in the next photos I took my solid black panels that I purchased at Lowe's last year for 9 or 10 dollars each and put them in my bedroom. I put these lovely black and gold panels in my kitchen. Adds just a little pop! My bedroom scheme is changing to black and white due to a different headboard. John is moving also, so we swapped out our beds as his king was too big for his new room. As you can see the black panels from the kitchen worked nicely in my bedroom. I also had these white panels that I had previously removed from my children's rooms when we moved into this house. I washed them and put them away thinking I could use them someday. Today was that day! The tassels were saved from the previous curtains I had in my bedroom. I am loving the black and white.

This is the inspiration for my bedroom re-do. I made these last year. I took some washed out looking frames and prints and painted the frames black and used scrapbook paper for the print. I love these. They were previously in my hallway, but look much better behind my headboard!

I have such vision for this little wood box! I got it at a garage sale for $2.00. It is to become my daughters coffee table. I will post the after pictures. This is my plan: Sand it and paint it black (I love black!) and then I am going paint the top 1/2 white and 1/2 black and do some stenciling. I saw a great idea on Etsy and am going to try to reproduce it! Can't wait to get it done and show it to you!
